Chris’ Bio

Originally from New Zealand, I moved to Sequim, located on the Olympic Peninsula of Washington State, in 1991. I’ve always enjoyed horses, following the rodeo circuit and being an active trail rider from a young age. At age 14, I started shoeing my own horse and by the time I was 18 I went into business for myself full time and started Chris’ Farrier Service in 1996. I now live in Sequim with my wife, our two children and our horse, Cowboy.

After 25 years of shoeing horses, I am still dedicated to growing in the knowledge of my trade. Learning has always been an important aspect of my life and business as I believe it’s crucial to continually improve upon my skill set, learn new techniques and keep up with the ever-evolving industry. Fortunately, I have had the great opportunity to learn from reputable mentors and still continue to learn from them. I recently attended Mission Farrier School, and had the honor of being an instructor, teaching advanced gluing techniques using rubber shoes for both performance and therapeutic applications. I’m regularly involved in helping teach clinics and workshops, locally and out of state, and was asked to speak at the last International Lameness Prevention Conference. This has been a great opportunity to keep learning and growing as a person and in my trade. »

I aspire to think outside the box, looking for innovative ways to improve on shoeing. I specialize in treating and rehabilitating horses with laminitis, founder, soft tissue injuries, ringbone, coffin bone fractures and hoof wall separations. Most importantly, I believe that success as a farrier is a team effort. Because of this, I work closely with the horse’s owner, veterinarians and other equine professionals (such as trainers and other farriers) in the area to ensure the horse I’m working with is properly attended to.
